About this Role

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, patient and adaptable parent and family support advisor for 37 hours per week, all year round, to start January 2026 on a permanent contract. This is a grade 12 post.

The Bridge School, Sedgemoor is one of four Pupil Referral Units commissioned by Somerset Council and local schools. We provide services through a number of centres for students with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. All students are referred through their mainstream schools in the Sedgemoor area.

The Bridge School, Sedgemoor is the Pupil Referral Unit for mainstream schools in Sedgemoor, we support a number of students across the age range from 4 - 16 years where they are at risk or have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. We are looking for dynamic, positive, creative and resilient practitioner who can support children and young people across the school.

This post will involve working in a variety of settings, including in schools, the community and family homes. young people and their families and will work to support them and their families make positive and sustainable change. Multi-agency working will be at the core of this work, but the ability to work independently is also essential. There will also be a requirement to work with families across our partnership of schools. The successful candidate will:

  • Be prepared to work with children and families within their homes and other venues.
  • Be able to demonstrate creativity and flexibility in their approach to engaging families, identifying family strengths, assessing their needs and supporting them to make sustainable, positive change. 
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with pupils, their families and supporting professionals. 
  • Have experience of working with and engaging children and young people with complex needs. 
  • Be able to work both collaboratively within a team and independently. 
  • Be able to identify unmet needs and risks surrounding pupils and respond to them appropriately, in accordance with local area safeguarding policies and guidance.

In addition, you will need to be:

  • Sensitive and empathetic
  • Have patience, flexibility, a sense of humour and be resilient
  • Understand the challenges our families face 
  • Have a good multi-agency network in which to gain support for families 
  • Able to lead training and workshops for families 
  • Have a clean driving license and be prepared to drive your own vehicle
