About this Role

Outreach Worker (Inclusion & Prevention)

Start Date: 1st September 2026        Hours: 35 hours per week, term time plus 1 week.

Job Type: Permanent   Salary Grade: NJC L6 SCP 21 - 25 (£33,143 - £36,363) The salary will be pro rata plus LGPS pension benefits. National pay award pending.

Avenue Centre for Education (ACE) is seeking a committed and skilled Outreach Worker (Inclusion & Prevention) to support vulnerable children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs across mainstream secondary schools and ACE.

This is an important role within Luton’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 Inclusion Framework, focused on early intervention, prevention and strengthening inclusive practice. You will work directly with pupils who may be at risk of suspension, permanent exclusion, disengagement from education or placement breakdown, helping them to build emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and positive coping strategies.

Working closely with schools, families and partner agencies, you will develop and deliver structured intervention plans, provide mentoring and coaching, support reintegration and transition planning, and offer advice and guidance to school staff around SEMH, behaviour and inclusion. A key part of the role will be helping schools identify emerging needs early and put effective support in place before difficulties escalate.

The right candidate should be:

  • Passionate about inclusion and committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people with SEMH needs.
  • Confident in building positive relationships with pupils, families, schools and external agencies to support engagement and successful placements.
  • Skilled in early intervention, with the ability to identify barriers to learning, behaviour, attendance and inclusion.
  • Resilient, reflective and solution-focused, able to work calmly and professionally with complex or challenging situations.
  • Highly organised and independent, with the ability to manage a caseload, keep accurate records and work across multiple school settings in Luton.

  • The position is a permanent one, starting September 2026. This is a total of 35 hours per week, term time plus 1 week. Lunch Break will be 20-minutes (unpaid).
  • ACE can offer the successful candidate the support from staff, parents and members (governors) who are enthusiastic, caring and committed to working as a team to achieve the best journey for our students at our school. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills and stay motivated through guidance and support of the Senior Leadership Team, who have a clear vision for The Avenue Centre and who really value committed members of staff. You will be enhancing your career by enrolling on the school’s numerous training opportunities and CPD schemes that effectively progress the knowledge and skill set of our staff team. This is a fantastic opportunity if you are motivated to work in a school dedicated to improving the life chances of some of the most vulnerable young people in society.

Safeguarding StatementACE is committed to safeguarding children and young people. Our interviews will always include relevant questions relating to child protection and/or safeguarding. A satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) with a Children’s Barred List Check is required as a condition of employment. In accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), an online search will be conducted on shortlisted candidates to identify anything that may need further exploration with candidates. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
