ASSET Education is seeking a SEMH teacher to join our dedicated trust inclusion team to lead our innovative Alternative Curriculum pathway in a new campus named ‘Flourish’. This exciting opportunity allows you to shape the provision and lead and grow a team of committed staff with support from the Head of Inclusion.

Pupils with SEMH needs and those struggling to access a traditional classroom will be referred to the Flourish pathway from other ASSET schools. Flourish will offer an enhanced adult:child ratio and an exciting, creative curriculum with creative arts, life skills and outdoor learning at its heart. Building positive relationships, partnership working and outreach to the ‘home’ school is an integral feature of Flourish. You’ll be working 4 days on campus and 1 day providing outreach to staff and Flourish pupils in their home schools.

Job purpose:  You will lead a small group of ASSET KS2 pupils with SEMH needs, who join the Flourish campus at Ringshall for short term placements, up to a maximum of 8 children at any time. You will plan and deliver outstanding cross curricular opportunities whilst fostering a nurturing environment with high expectations that enables pupils to flourish, and reintegrate successfully to their home school.

You will be an experienced teacher with a pioneering attitude, able to understand the balance between creating a supportive environment that meets the needs of children with social, emotional and mental health needs - and having high expectations for children’s learning and future lives. You will be as comfortable supporting children in your own classroom as you are going into another teacher’s classroom in the child’s home school, as you support them to reintegrate You will be unafraid to have supportive and challenging conversations with the parents, teachers and leaders that will help children that are on the Flourish pathway to succeed - while they are in your care, and after they have returned to their home school.

The successful candidate requires:

QTS and significant teaching experience. You are likely to have been in the classroom for at least 5 years.

Previous experience of supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs, in particular Social Emotional and Mental Health needs

Strong behaviour management skills

Passion, drive and ambition to affect change and improve the life chances of our students

Confidence to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents/carers

Good curriculum knowledge and the passion and desire to make learning engaging and innovative 

To be a team player and able to lead and develop others

To be able to deliver CPD to staff within ASSET

Have experience/knowledge of trauma informed and therapeutic approaches 

Full driving licence and transport (mileage paid)

The role will consist of:

Teaching a class of pupils with SEMH needs/displaying challenging behaviour

Close working with and travel to ASSET schools through transition of pupils, target setting and outreach work, including delivering CPD

Leading the Flourish team of staff

Working in collaboration with families, ASSET staff and outside agencies where required

Developing an adapted, creative curriculum to meet the needs of individuals learners

Create a safe, nurturing and purposeful environment with positive, trusting relationships and belonging at the heart

Making appropriate use of a range of monitoring and assessment strategies to evaluate pupil’s progress and the impact of the alternative pathway offer
