About this Role

Langley School is seeking to appoint a part-time teacher of Maths from 1 September 2026 to teach maths, for pupils from year 6 through to GCSE and A-level classes. 

This is a wonderful opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual who will contribute to development of our excellent department and deliver a stimulating and well balanced academic and co-curricular programme for our pupils. 

We welcome applications from specialists in all areas of maths. The successful candidate will demonstrate the qualities and skills to inspire and motivate the pupils and ensure opportunities for all our pupils to enjoy maths.

All teachers at the school are form tutors and play an important role in the pastoral and extra-curricular life of a thriving independent school.

This is a fixed term 0.5 FTE vacancy in the Maths department from September, which will increase to a 0.6 FTE vacancy from January 2027. This will likely be over 3 days per week.


PURPOSE AND JOB SPECIFICATION -

Deliver lessons using a variety of differentiated instructional techniques, that are appropriate to the academic level and meet the diverse needs of pupils.

• Plan and prepare high quality lessons that meet core objectives and principles and are aligned with the National Curriculum for KS2/KS3, KS4 and KS5.

• Prepare instructional aids and supplementary teaching materials and resources consistent with learning objectives and pupil needs and which integrate the use of technology and pupil digital devices, where relevant.

• Utilise IT effectively to enhance lesson delivery and planning. 

• Develop pupils’ abilities to work independently and collaboratively in groups.

• Maintain the highest of expectations for pupil behaviour, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. 

• Track and monitor pupil learning using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods, including grade assessments and assignments, and preparing and administering curriculum aligned assessments.

• Monitor pupil performance, progress, and modify instructional methods to meet individual needs and plan, deliver and evaluate additional intervention to address under-achievement within the department.

Prepare detailed and informative reports for parents, outlining pupil performance and actionable steps for further development. 

• Be a reflective practitioner and respond positively to feedback. 

• Collaborate effectively with colleagues to develop teaching strategies, resources, and schemes of work within the department. 

• Promote and oversee departmental trips, initiatives and activities.

• Carry out weekly duties, as scheduled on the Duty Rota.

• Cover a Day Duty in the Boarding House on one Saturday/Sunday a year.

• Attend additional school events which can occur in the evening or at weekends on occasions (eg Parents Evenings, Information Evenings Open Mornings, Speech Day).

• Perform any other activities or roles, commensurate with the post, which are reasonably requested by the Executive Head or Head of School.

• Show clear commitment to safeguarding children.


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Hold a minimum qualification of an honour’s degree, ideally with QTS

- Proven track record of excellent teaching and student progress in Maths, including at KS4 and KS5

- An in-depth and up-todate understanding of the specification for Maths qualifications at GCSE and at A Level

- Excellent subject knowledge with the ability to communicate in an imaginative and enthusiastic way

- The ability to analyse performance data and drive improvement

- A research-informed understanding of the current best practice in Maths teaching

- A strong commitment to delivering the highest standards of teaching and learning across the department

- Be resilient, flexible and committed to professional development of own teaching practice

- Ability to establish and maintain successful relationships with pupils, staff, and parents

- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

- Be willing to commit to cocurricular activities that add value to the school and local community

- Understand and have a willingness to adapt and contribute to the needs of an independent boarding school.

Desirable but not essential: 

- ability to teach Further Maths A-Level
