About this Role

Housemistress

Required January 2025

Applications are invited for the role of Housemistress at The Royal Masonic School for Girls. RMS is an independent, day and boarding school with a supportive and nurturing ethos. The School provides an exceptionally favourable working environment, with keen students and stunning surroundings.

We are seeking to appoint a caring and enthusiastic Housemistress. Whilst there is a preference for the housemistress to be a qualified teacher, we would also welcome applications from non-teachers with relevant experience. If you are a teacher, you will have a significantly reduced teaching allocation to reflect responsibility of the role and to enable you to play a full part in the boarding community. The Housemistress will be required to live in free accommodation, in a Harris House flat in order to fulfil their role. You must be flexible and will be required to work weekends. The Housemistress will communicate effectively in order to maintain constant contact with parents and line manage the House staff.

Reporting to the Director of Boarding, the post holder will join our lively and forward thinking boarding team to oversee the welfare of approximately 30 full, weekly and flexi boarders from Years 4 to 9 in Harris House. You will oversee the pastoral and academic needs of boarders in Year 4-9 (primarily Year 7-9) and will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the boarding house, and the pastoral care and support of the boarders, creating a happy, respectful, safe and caring atmosphere in the House. RMS boarders enjoy a lively and varied programme of activities and benefit from outstanding pastoral care.

This role may be appealing not only to experienced boarding staff, but also to those open to experiencing boarding for the first time and who are wishing to challenge themselves to achieve their full potential

RMS is one of the top performing schools nationally for Value Added at GCSE and A level and we are proud to be an inclusive school where all girls are encouraged to fulfil their potential. Potential candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the school website www.rmsforgirls.com for more information about our thriving school, with its and inclusive community spirit that encourages both girls and staff to share a commitment to continued personal, professional and academic development.
