About Us

Furze Down School provides a supportive and aspirational environment for children with complex Special Educational Needs (4-19). The school was recognised as being ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in
2006, 2009, 2014, 2019 and 2024. Our shared purpose is to improve the life chances of all students by raising standards of achievement. Every member of our team plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and accessible environment for students, staff, parents, and visitors.  As a Site Assistant, you’ll help maintain our facilities to the highest standards, supporting the school’s strong reputation and ensuring everyone feels valued and included.

The Role

As a Site Assistant, you will:

  • ·         Help keep our school safe and secure by following Health & Safety procedures and acting as a Fire Warden when needed.
  • ·         Support with opening and closing the site, monitoring security, and assisting contractors.
  • ·         Manage deliveries and set up rooms for meetings, performances, and events.
  • ·         Carry out routine maintenance and emergency repairs, and assist with inspections.
  • ·         Ensure outdoor areas are safe and clear, and support cleaning staff when required.
  • ·         Contribute positively to the life of the school, promoting our values and ethos.

This role involves working across multiple sites within reasonable travel distance, so flexibility is essential.

What We’re Looking For

  • ·         A proactive, reliable team player with a positive attitude.
  • ·         Ability to work independently and follow Health & Safety guidelines.
  • ·         Good communication skills and a commitment to creating a welcoming environment.
  • ·         Practical skills for basic maintenance and a willingness to learn.

Previous experience in a similar role is helpful but not essential—we provide training and support.

 Why Join Us?

  • ·         Be part of a supportive and collaborative team.
  • ·         Opportunities for training and professional development.

A role that makes a real difference to the school community.

We Value Diversity

We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels respected and supported. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and communities. If you need any adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know.

Furze Down School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check before they are appointed.
