Administrative Assistant (Grade 2)

Specialist School for Children with Autism (Ages 4–16)

We are seeking a professional, organised, and compassionate Administrative Assistant to join our dedicated team at a specialist school for children with autism aged 4 to 16. This is a key frontline role, providing essential administrative support to ensure the smooth and effective running of our school.

About the Role

You will work closely with the Head Teacher, Senior Leadership Team, and Senior Office Manager, supporting day‑to‑day administration while contributing to a welcoming, calm, and well‑organised school environment that supports the needs of our pupils and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a key point of contact at school reception, answering telephone calls, responding to email enquiries, and welcoming visitors in a professional and friendly manner
  • Provide high‑quality administrative, secretarial, and clerical support to the Head Teacher, Senior Leadership Team, and Senior Office Manager
  • Support the Senior Office Manager with basic financial administration in line with local authority requirements
  • Organise, plan, and prioritise workloads effectively in a busy school environment
  • Maintain and update the school’s Management Information System (MIS), ensuring accuracy of pupil data
  • Prepare confidential correspondence and reports for the Head Teacher
  • Work during 4 designated summer holiday days (banked hours contract) to support preparation for the new academic year
  • Adhere to all school policies including child protection, health and safety, and equal opportunities
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times
  • Uphold and promote the ethos, vision, and values of the school

About You

You will be a reliable and proactive administrator who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a close‑knit school team.

Essential Criteria

  • Good general standard of education
  • Experience working in an office or administrative environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Confident answering phones and relaying messages accurately
  • Competent user of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • A professional, calm, and supportive approach when dealing with pupils, families, and colleagues
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role confidently in English
