The Latymer School is
a high achieving, but caring grammar school in North London. Visitors comment
on the warm atmosphere and the level of participation in extra-curricular
activities. Pupils at the school recently described the school as one “family”
and it being a “real community”. We are very proud of our school and believe it
is a place where you can really teach and develop to attain
the highest educational standards. We are regularly named in the top 10
performing schools in London by The Times Newspaper.
We have an exciting opportunity
for a teacher to join two excellent departments Geography and History. The post
will see you teaching mostly Geography with a third of your timetable being
History. Both departments are extremely well resourced and are very popular
subjects in the school. Whilst you would be well supported in the two
departments, here at Latymer it is also a fantastic opportunity to develop and
hone your craft as a teacher with both encouraging colleagues and keen and
enthusiastic students.
The Geography Department works as a
close-knit group, sharing resources and strategies and are an energetic and
friendly department. As you would expect, Geography is a very popular option at
A-level and GCSE. The department’s exam results are consistently high at both
GCSE and at ‘A’ level and were excellent for 2022-23. Geography results are
very high, the most recent externally graded results in 2023 being 88.3% of
students achieving grades 9-7 at GCSE and at A Level (with 21.2% achieving an
A*, 66.7% A*/A, 93.9% A*/B and 97.0% A*/C). The History Department is a thriving and well
organised department that is impressively resourced to provide a supportive
working atmosphere for staff. Programmes of study across all the key stages
seek to challenge and stimulate all students and the department has a
consistent record of excellent results with 84.4% of pupils gaining 7/9 in GCSE
History. History is also a popular subject at A Level and students continue to
excel 94.1% achieving A*- C and many going on to read History at university.
The school will ensure there is an appropriate balance of teaching across the Three Key Stages.
The school provides a range of well-being activities, such as circuits, Pilates and facilities including good transport links, free parking, a cycle to work scheme, use of the fitness suite and even massages by a qualified masseuse. The school also runs a number of national and international trips, and we even have our own residential centre in a beautiful part of North Wales which staff also use. We value our staff and the importance of maintaining a healthy work life balance.
