About Roundhay All-Through School

About Roundhay School

Since 1903, Roundhay School has been at the heart of its community, growing into one of the country’s largest, most diverse, and most oversubscribed schools. Located next to the magnificent Roundhay Park, one of the largest city parks in Europe, and four miles north of Leeds, West Yorkshire, we are proud to educate over 2,500 pupils across our impressive Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form campuses, offering a seamless and ambitious through-school learning journey from Reception to Year 13. Our Sixth Form is one of the largest in the country with more than 600 students. Our Primary school were named Primary School of the Year 2021 as part of the Pearson National Teaching Awards.

Our school community is built on strong values - Responsible, Resilient, and Ready to Learn - and we are committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure every pupil reaches their full potential. We never place limits on what our pupils can achieve, regardless of background or circumstance. Our school values are not empty words. They shape every decision and action we take. Everything we do is for our pupils: developing their character, nurturing a love of learning, and preparing them to become “Recognisably Roundhay”. That means young people who contribute positively to school and society, and who continue to learn and grow long after they leave us.

We are delighted to be recognised as an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ school in all categories and to hold the prestigious World Class Schools Quality Mark, awarded to schools that go beyond outstanding. Our academic outcomes are consistently strong, with a Progress 8 score well above the national average and high numbers of students progressing to top universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions. Yet we never stand still. We are always striving to improve, and we are determined to ensure that no pupil is ever left behind.

Our curriculum is broad, rich and carefully designed to inspire a love of learning and develop character. We place a strong emphasis on oracy, literacy and language development, and our pupils are encouraged to be curious, confident and kind. We are also proud members of the Red Kite Teaching School Alliance, working collaboratively with other schools to share best practice and raise standards across the region.

What makes Roundhay special is not only our outcomes but also our ethos and atmosphere. Visitors frequently comment on the warm relationships, calm environment, and the way our pupils look after one another. We set the highest standards, expecting impeccable behaviour, kindness, respect, and pride in wearing our uniform. Our Kindness Charter is embedded throughout school. This ensures our pupils feel safe, happy, and ready to learn.
