At William Hulme’s Grammar School, we are proud to be a thriving all-through academy for pupils aged 3-18, serving more than 1,600 young people from a rich diversity of backgrounds, cultures and abilities. As one of the most popular and oversubscribed schools in Manchester, we are proud to have been judged Good in all areas by Ofsted in 2025. Inspectors recognised that our school is where “individuals are valued and nurtured” and where “differences are celebrated”, reflecting our commitment to ensuring every pupil feels supported and able to succeed.
At William Hulme’s Grammar School, we foster a strong sense of belonging through our inclusive and vibrant school community, where every pupil is known and valued. Our commitment to “Education with Character” ensures that pupils flourish both academically and personally, supported by an exceptional range of enrichment opportunities, including competitive sport, performing arts, cultural experiences, educational visits and pupil-led initiatives. As a proudly multicultural school in the heart of south Manchester, we celebrate diversity, build meaningful partnerships with our community and work closely with families throughout every stage of their child’s education. Positive relationships and mutual respect underpin daily life, helping pupils to develop the confidence, character and skills they need to thrive. Our dynamic house system and Forest School provision within the primary phase, further enrich the experience we offer.
William Hulme’s Grammar School is part of United Learning’s Manchester cluster, working closely with neighbouring schools. This collaboration allows us to share expertise, access to joint services, and enrich the educational experience for all.
In recent years, we have benefitted from extensive expansion and refurbishment work, creating an exceptional learning environment for both pupils and staff. Developments have included a purpose-built Primary School, a state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre with its own café, and extensive refurbishment of our Secondary School buildings. More recently we have added a covered outdoor canopy and a new 3G sports pitch, providing excellent facilities that are enjoyed by both our school and the wider community.
We are also proud of our Local Authority-funded Resourced Provision (RP), which supports pupils with autism within a mainstream secondary setting. The provision offers a calm, safe and nurturing environment, designed for pupils with complex needs, providing personalised support that promotes academic achievement, wellbeing and inclusion within the wider school community. This is a particularly exciting time to join William Hulme’s Grammar School, with plans underway to expand the provision into a purpose-built, 34-place all-through centre, further strengthening our commitment to inclusive education.
