About The Portsmouth Grammar School
Founded in 1732, The Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS) is a co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 2½ - 18 years, located in the heart of Portsmouth, a city renowned for its rich maritime history, world-class attractions and vibrant waterfront. We are a thriving school situated within walking distance of the coast and comprise a Pre-School, Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form.
Our shared purpose is to be recognised nationally for our curriculum design and as a thriving and diverse community centred around core values (curiosity, creativity, courage, commitment, compassion and collaboration) and educational excellence. We work to consistently prepare young people for a global world in a welcoming, forward-looking, ambitious, dynamic and sustainable School built on firm and historic foundations.

We attach great value to supporting our staff to develop and grow in their work through stimulating Professional Development days, creative collaboration within and between departments, and coaching and peer mentoring.
We regularly support trainee teachers and newly qualified teachers and provide an internal programme of support for Early Career Teachers, alongside a middle leadership programme to support those in post or aspiring to take on a middle leadership role.
