Welcome to The Abbey School

The Abbey School is a mixed secondary academy of over 1000 students where young people can discover and develop their own individual talents. We provide an education that is structured around the individual strengths and needs of all our children without losing sight of the need to secure the best possible range of qualifications across all of the core subjects. 

Developing ‘well rounded’ individuals who possess a strong sense of responsibility for both the school and the wider community is important to us. Our students require not only an excellent foundation in learning, but also attributes such as resilience, leadership, creativity and team-working skills. 

We are particularly proud of the support structures that exist within the school. The quality of our pastoral system is the foundation on which our academic success is based. Students learn most effectively when they feel well cared for and valued within the school community. Staff ensure that every effort is made to give children as many opportunities as possible, both inside and outside of the classroom, to develop and fulfil their potential.

At the end of their time with us, we aim for all our young people to leave the school confident, happy and well equipped to take their place in employment or further education. Indeed, almost without exception, our students progress on to university, college or careers of their choice leading to success in their chosen field. This fact underlines the achievement of the school against the aims that we have set ourselves.
