About Stratford-Upon-Avon Primary School

We are delighted to welcome you to our wonderful school set in the heart of Stratford upon Avon.
Our school is an exciting, inspiring and happy place to learn and we are committed to providing an excellent education for all who pass through our doors.
The current building of Stratford upon Avon Primary School was founded in 1883, however the foundations of the school were established in 1815 by Rev Thomas Helmore and the school was known as The British School. The vision and values of the school then are the same now,
'To create a happy place, where children and adults learn and flourish in a creative, rewarding atmosphere and are given as many opportunities & experiences to increase their life chances and careers. '
We love the fact that we are literally around the corner from Shakespeare’s chool. We are ideally placed to take full advantage of the traditions, history and cultural life of the town to enrich our educational provision. We strive to place our school at the heart of the community it serves; a school of which everyone can be proud.
We have a strong belief that every child deserves a chance regardless of their skills or abilities and are given as many opportunities as they can to succeed.
We are constantly creating and adapting an environment that is safe, fun, inspirational, ambitious and full of care.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff, parents and volunteers to share this commitment.
The school educates young children from ages four to eleven:
The Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception Class age 4-5)
Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2, ages 5-7)
Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6, ages 7-11)
Our pupil experience
Outdoor learning – we have access to a green area known as The Paddock where the children can run, climb trees, play games and enjoy life. We have a wildlife garden in our grounds for the children to explore. Being close to The River Avon is brilliant and we look for lots of opportunities through visits and visitors to widen children’s understanding and skills. We love forest school which is in our paddock but also visit The Heart of England forest where we become explorers, investigators, stone age developers and more.
Communities (local, global & cultural perspective) Through our connections with The Royal Shakespeare Company, links to businesses, other schools; local and through our trust we develop the pupils as global citizens.
Healthy Living & Sport. We love sport at Stratford and develop our pupils to become leaders in this area. We offer a wide range of opportunities for pupils to take part in above and beyond our curriculum; cross country, bell-boating, tennis, golf, quidditch, athletics etc.
Use of technologies. The pupils have access to laptops and ipads. The Apple server ensures that they can access a range of apps to increase their knowledge. We invite people in to showcase robots for example or the use of drones.
Creative arts. We participate in Stratford Literary festival, Shakespeare’s birthday celebrations, Shakespeare week, invite visitors such as artists & authors to share skills, look for opportunities to extend the children’s musical ability e.g. Rock Steady Music Academy, performing at The Royal Albert Hall and in community projects in care homes.
High expectations & academic standards. Our key to our curriculum development is our high expectations. We teach the children that they can achieve whatever they want to achieve. We help them to develop their skills and knowledge in all areas.
Real life situations. All children are able at some point to work with professional chefs, singers, engineers. We look for opportunities for them to develop themselves in the business world and run mini enterprises. Children learn first aid.
Balance of independence and teamwork. Key to their learning, every child is allocated a house team and enjoys healthy competition. They can earn house points individually and through team competitions.
Spiritually, reflection & culture.  We offer mindfulness sessions, opportunities for debate, explore big questions, and actively promote mental health & well-being. We explore different cultures throughout the year, visit different places of worship, celebrate equality & diversity and ensure all children have opportunities to ask questions and understand differences.

Parent comments - We really are truly thankful for all your efforts with the children, your team are also wonderful . We are firm believers in the quality of the school. We cannot thank you and team enough for the opportunities you give them.
‘Wonderful displays, such carefully thought through work, very talented students and super Year 6 guides. ‘
Staff comments – ‘I was inspired to join the school by all the wonderful opportunities to develop outdoor learning, as well as the lovely warm welcome.’
‘It is always lovely to show visitors around our school, taking them into classrooms that are engaging and inspiring and talking to confident and motivated children who are excited about their learning.
Pupil comments – ‘This school is a loving and caring place. Every day is different in its own way.
‘I love our school, every class is just a big family where we include everyone.’
