At Stamford Welland Academy, every
child is known, valued, and supported to achieve above and beyond their
potential. Our culture at SWA is firmly rooted in the 3 school values of Aspiration,
Resilience and Understanding. Relationships between staff and students at SWA
are extremely strong and positive, and there is a genuine feeling of us all
being part of a team. Without exception, every visitor who walks through the
doors of SWA comments on the fantastic atmosphere which feels friendly,
purposeful, and welcoming.
SWA has grown significantly in the
last few years, and we now find ourselves with a waiting list for all year
groups. We have enjoyed significant investment in our buildings to meet the
growing student numbers, and this is set to continue over the coming years. We
have a reputation for genuinely caring for the young people we teach and
nurturing them to become the best version of themselves. Parents recognise the
exceptional pastoral care that we provide and combined with superb teaching; we
offer a truly ‘whole’ education for young people. This approach has resulted in
not only fantastic GCSE results, but perhaps more importantly, young people who
feel confident, happy, safe, members of our school family. Not surprisingly,
our staff turnover is very low as we work hard to also make sure every member
of staff feels valued and part of the school family.
In September 2021, we received our
Ofsted inspection with the result of ‘Good’ in all areas. It was said that:
‘Leaders
have high ambitions for what pupils can achieve. They have thought carefully
about what knowledge pupils need to learn for future success.’
‘Leaders have set high expectations for
pupils' behaviour and attitudes to learning.’
‘There
is a sense of community, which helps staff to know pupils well and allows
pupils to feel safe and happy.’
‘The
school is calm and orderly.’
We also work
closely with Challenge Partners, and our latest review from them judged us as
‘Leading’ – the highest grade possible. They also confirmed many of our
strengths with comments such as:
‘Relationships
between staff and students are extremely positive and are built on mutual
respect. Classroom routines are clear and consistent. This engenders students’
willingness to engage with the subject.’
‘The
principal and her senior leadership team (SLT) lead the school with ambition
and sensitivity. They have a deep understanding of the students and families in
their demographic, and this, along with the improvement in outcomes, has led to
a huge increase in school applications and numbers on roll.’
