St Peter’s Centre is a secondary-age medical pupil referral unit (PRU) offering education to pupils who are unable to attend mainstream schools due to medical or mental health needs. The school provides a calm, inclusive learning environment where young people can recover, re-engage and make academic and personal progress at a pace that works for them.

Learners at St Peter’s Centre typically experience a blend of 1:1 and small group teaching. The curriculum is broad and carefully differentiated, including English, maths, science, art, humanities and PSHE. Staff work closely with pupils to identify interests and build on prior knowledge. The aim is to promote confidence, reduce anxiety and provide a platform for re-entry to school or post-16 provision.

The school takes a holistic, relational approach. Every learner is recognised as an individual, and staff create an environment of mutual respect, clear boundaries and emotional safety. Staff are trained in trauma-informed practice and in supporting learners with anxiety, depression, or other mental health needs. Learning is supported through clear routines, consistent expectations and compassionate relationships.

Transitions are central to our work. We liaise closely with home schools, parents and professionals to plan and support reintegration. Where appropriate, we also provide outreach support or advice to help mainstream schools better support returning pupils. St Peter’s Centre is a space of rebuilding and reflection—and we work to ensure learners leave us with renewed confidence in themselves and in their education.
