St Oswald’s Academy was the first Academy to join BDAT in October 2012. The school is a two form entry primary school, with two year old nursery provision, based in the Great Horton area of Bradford.
St Oswald’s Primary Academy bases its mission statement around four simple principles, contained within the acronym CARE: Compassion, Achievement, Respect and Excellence. Their goal is to shape their pupils into well-rounded citizens, capable of exploring their individual potential to its fullest extent. To do this, they provide children with a learning environment that is at once safe, caring, stimulating and challenging, without ever losing sight of the core principles of the Christian faith. The school prides itself on preparing its pupils for adult life by providing them with not only a high-standard traditional education, but also values such as self-confidence, team work, acceptance and respect for their peers.
The latest OFSTED report on St Oswald’s mentioned the ‘good attitudes’ of its pupils, which were thought to contribute positively ‘to the friendly atmosphere evident throughout the school’. The Academy was also praised for its ‘strong ethos of care’, evident, according to the report, in the way pupils were ‘well cared for and supported in their personal and social development.’ (OFSTED)
