St John the Baptist Rc Primary School, a Voluntary Academy

About St John the Baptist Rc Primary School, a Voluntary Academy

St John’s RC Primary School is situated on the outskirts of Burnley near to Burnley General hospital.  We are part of the Salford Diocese and from 1st December 2019 have become a Voluntary Academy, part of the Romero Catholic Trust.
We cater for children who live in the Burnley area between the ages of four and eleven.
The original building was opened as a school in 1895. The present building was occupied in 1975.
The school is single storey and has extensive grounds including an outdoor Sacred Space, two playgrounds, trim trail, wildlife garden and an all weather pitch.
The faith-life of our school guides everything we do and we are extremely well supported by regular visits from our Parish Priest Fr David Featherstone.  We have a Pupil Chaplaincy Team who actively help to lead our faith-life.
Details of our curriculum can be found in the section ‘Curriculum’ – if you would like further information, please contact our office.
Our School Council meets half-termly with representatives from each class.  We also have a Pupil Discussion Group who meet regularly.
The school is well served by support services. We have our own pastoral support staff including our Pupil and Family Support Manager, Learning Mentor and Pupil Mentors.
We are supported by the School Nurse Team and have regular visits from educational psychologists and specialist teachers.
We also have advice and courses provided by the Salford Diocesan Schools Commission.
There are strong links with the local community through St John’s Parish; the St Vincent de Paul Society; work experience and teacher training schemes; the Health Service; Children’s Social Care and the Community Police.
We have a thriving PTFA, which provides great support for the school.
