Headteacher's message

I’m Kyle Audsley and I’m incredibly proud to be the Headteacher at Spen Valley High School. A school that has shaped my own life journey, and one I care about deeply. This school holds a very special place in my heart not just because I now have the privilege of leading it, but because I was once a student here myself. I know first-hand the care, commitment, and sense of belonging that defines this school community. And I can say, without hesitation, that it helped shape the person I am today.

I’ve worked in education for 16 years, starting as a PE teacher. Over the past 13 years, I’ve worked in senior leadership across a number of schools. As a parent myself, I know how important it is for your child to feel safe, supported, and have a sense of belonging. That’s why my philosophy is simple: ‘Results through Relationships’.

Spen Valley High School is not just a place of learning. It’s a place where every young person is seen, valued, and supported to thrive not just academically, but emotionally and socially. We are proud to be a truly inclusive comprehensive secondary school, welcoming students of all backgrounds and abilities. What makes us unique is our trauma-informed and attachment-aware approach. We understand that every child carries their own story, and we create a safe and nurturing environment where relationships come first. This is at the heart of everything we do. It prioritises trust, connection, and emotional safety, because we know that young people learn best when they feel safe and understood. We believe that strong, respectful relationships are the foundation of learning. Whether it’s in or out of the classroom, or in conversations with parents and carers, our focus is on building a community where every individual feels they belong. We strive that all of our students can access an aspirational curriculum that is appropriate to their needs and will enable them to stand ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with any young person from any background.

My vision is simple; to ensure that every student who walks through our doors is given the opportunity to succeed, to feel safe, and to grow into confident, compassionate, kind and capable young adults. At Spen Valley, we build strong, trusting relationships with every student and family because we believe that’s the foundation of both academic achievement and personal growth.
