About Us
We are an independent special needs day school for pupils
with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, autistic spectrum
disorder and other complex needs. It is situated on three sites in the London
boroughs of Brent, Barnet and Enfield. All pupils have education, health
and care plans (EHCP) and are placed by a wide range of local authorities.
Typically, the pupils placed at the school have significantly disrupted
educational histories.
Our work at Southover is underpinned by the principles of
attachment theory. We follow a small school model because we believe it
delivers the best outcomes for our students. This means each school community
gets to deeply know and understand its members and allows students to be more
directly involved in their own education. It allows the different school sites
to serve as pupils’ primary attachment, and therefore build up a trusting
relationship with others and eventually society. We aim to deliver a truly
personalised and holistic education experience for all of our pupils.
We are a warm and truly inclusive school and welcome
visits so you can experience first-hand our unique educational offering.

Implementation and approach to learning
We use a small school model
where pupils often access learning:
·
While we have our well-sequenced curriculum
pathways and schemes of work in place. It is common that contextual lessons and
‘out-of-cycle’ learning take place to explore the hidden curriculum, as
Southover proactively plans to differentiate based on the needs and interests
of the pupils.
Why Us?
Our classes are very small, with groups ranging from 1 to
5 students, and most classes having at least 1 TA.
Our sites are calm and supportive; though our students may
require support sometimes, it is always available to help them manage their
emotions and have a positive day.
We do what is best for each of our students; we don't
expect every child to get a specific qualification 'just because'. We care for
the whole child's emotional, personal and academic needs, and prepare them for
successful adulthood.
We are interested in candidates that are outstanding educators,
who are fully-inclusive in their practice, with positive classroom management
skills and a growth mind-set attitude. They need to be resilient and flexible
enough to work in a pressured school environment. The successful applicants
will demonstrate a strong commitment to the aims, values and ethos of the
school and be a positive team player.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced,
enthusiastic and committed person, who will continue to maintain the School
high standards by providing abundant opportunities for all students to achieve.
