Welcome to Short Wood Primary School, in the heart of Wellington, Telford. It is a privilege to lead such a caring and vibrant school community.  We are proud to place our children at the centre of everything we do, to ensure that every child feels safe, valued and inspired to reach their full potential. We strive to ensure our Short Woodies, young and old, are happy, confident and eager to learn.

We believe that choosing respect underpins all positive relationships. At Short Wood, we nurture a culture where kindness, empathy and consideration are the norm. Children learn to respect themselves, each other and the world around them, creating a calm and supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

We support our pupils and staff to take risks, learn from mistakes and develop the confidence to persevere, preparing them for the future with a positive and ambitious mindset.

We have a dedicated team of staff who are committed to delivering high-quality teaching and providing a wide range of opportunities both in and beyond the classroom. The curriculum is well planned and connected. Each year pupils build on their learning from previous years, our topics are connected so pupils are supported to make links across subject areas. Strong partnerships with parents and carers are at the heart of our success.  We also have strong partnerships with professionals beyond school to support our pupils and families. 

We have an amazing site where pupils experience outdoor learning on a weekly basis; this may be a study of the stream at ‘Squirrel School’ or making shelters and dens.  The Arthog Outreach team, based at our Sports Hall, support adventurous activities planned as part of the offer for all pupils during their time at Short Wood. We also take our pupils out to explore what their own locality has to offer, building a sense of pride and belonging.

Being part of Severn Bridges Multi Academy Trust means we can widen the opportunities on offer for staff and pupils.  We have a CPD timetable to develop staff to meet priorities of the school but also to grow as individual professionals.  There are a range of events across the trust for pupils to take part in, from sporting events, computing challenges, to Art Exhibitions – there is something for everyone to showcase their talent.
