About this Role

Serenity School Old Palace Croydon is looking to appoint an experienced and passionate Assistant Headteacher – Teaching, Learning & Assessment to work as part of our supportive and collaborative leadership team.

Serenity School Old Palace Croydon is a specialist educational setting that provides a safe, nurturing and structured environment for pupils with a wide range of SEND. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educational leader to play a key role in shaping and driving the school’s teaching, learning and assessment strategy. Working closely with the Headteacher, senior leaders and teaching staff, the successful candidate will support the development of outstanding classroom practice, robust assessment systems and high-impact professional development, ensuring the best possible outcomes for pupils.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading and implementing strategies to improve teaching, learning and assessment across the school
  • Supporting the Headteacher and SLT in the strategic and operational leadership of the school
  • Driving consistency in curriculum implementation, assessment practice and quality assurance processes
  • Leading coaching, professional development and staff training to improve classroom practice
  • Monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning through lesson observations, work scrutiny and data analysis
  • Supporting middle leaders and teaching staff to deliver ambitious and inclusive learning experiences for pupils with SEND
  • Using assessment data effectively to identify strengths, areas for development and targeted interventions
  • Contributing to school improvement planning, self-evaluation and inspection readiness
  • Modelling excellent teaching practice and maintaining high standards of professional conduct

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an experienced and inspirational leader with a strong commitment to high-quality education and SEND provision
  • Has a proven track record of improving teaching, learning and pupil outcomes in a leadership capacity
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of curriculum design, pedagogy and assessment
  • Has experience coaching, mentoring and developing staff to improve practice
  • Is highly organised, analytical and able to use data effectively to drive improvement
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can build positive relationships across the school community
  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality and inclusive practice
  • Is resilient, reflective and able to lead with clarity, collaboration and high expectations
