Serenity Education Group is looking to appoint an experienced and passionate Group Head of Primary Phase (School Improvement Officer) to work as part of our central leadership team based in Croydon.
Serenity Education Group is a specialist multi-site organisation committed to delivering safe, structured, and ambitious education for pupils with SEND. This is a strategic, group-wide school improvement role focused on driving consistently high standards across all Primary phases and pathways.
The successful candidate will work directly with Headteachers, senior leaders, and Primary phase teams across Serenity schools to strengthen curriculum implementation, teaching quality, assessment systems, and leadership capacity. The role is designed for an experienced senior leader who can operate credibly at system level — providing high support and high challenge — and deliver measurable, sustained improvements in pupil outcomes, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
This is not a single-site leadership role, but a cross-group position responsible for embedding consistency, accountability, and excellence across Primary provision.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Providing strategic group-wide leadership for Primary education, acting as School Improvement Officer across all Serenity Education Group schools
Driving consistent implementation of the agreed Primary curriculum model, ensuring ambition and appropriate adaptation for pupils with SEND
Improving teaching quality through lesson visits, work scrutiny, coaching, instructional feedback, and structured follow-up
Strengthening assessment systems and pupil progress tracking, ensuring credible evidence of impact across literacy, numeracy, personal development, and wider curriculum
Building leadership capacity across Primary teams, delivering targeted professional development and ensuring robust quality assurance and Ofsted readiness
We are looking for someone who:
Has successful senior leadership experience (Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Headteacher, or equivalent) with demonstrable impact on teaching quality and pupil outcomes
Has significant experience within SEND provision, with strong understanding of adaptive teaching, Autism-informed approaches, and supporting pupils working below age-related expectations
Demonstrates deep knowledge of Primary curriculum design, including early reading/phonics and primary maths progression
Has proven experience evaluating provision, coaching staff, and securing sustained school improvement across teams or multiple settings
Is highly organised, resilient, and professionally credible, with the ability to influence and challenge senior leaders across multiple sites
At Serenity Education Group, we are committed to delivering exceptional specialist education and building sustainable leadership capacity across our schools. We value ambition, collaboration, and evidence-informed practice. Joining Serenity means playing a central role in shaping high-quality Primary provision and ensuring strong, measurable progress for pupils with SEND across multiple schools.
Serenity Education Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
For international candidates, a latest Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) from their home country will be required.
Successful candidates must also provide satisfactory references covering the last five years of employment or education, including any gaps.
