About School of Outdoors
Alternative Provision & Outdoor Education
School of Outdoors is an outdoor education organisation with a strong and growing focus on Alternative Provision for young people who have found mainstream education challenging. Our work is based on the belief that the right environment, the right relationships and purposeful activity can re‑engage young people in learning and help them move forward with confidence.
Alternative Provision forms a significant part of what we do. We work with schools, local authorities and partners to support young people who may be experiencing exclusion, anxiety around school, social or emotional needs, or barriers to engagement in traditional classroom settings. Our programmes are carefully designed to provide structure, consistency and high expectations, while using the outdoors as a powerful setting for learning and personal development.
Staff working in our Alternative Provision programmes build strong, trusting relationships with young people over time. You will be part of a team that values patience, professionalism and clear boundaries, alongside empathy, encouragement and belief in young people’s potential. The work is challenging and highly rewarding, and we take staff support and preparation seriously.
Alongside our Alternative Provision work, we also deliver a range of outdoor learning programmes, residentials and adventure activities for schools. This broader work informs our practice combining educational purpose, safeguarding, and high‑quality outdoor delivery and provides opportunities for staff to develop a wide range of skills across different settings.
At School of Outdoors, we aim to be proactive, well‑organised and values‑led. We invest time in planning, communication and onboarding so that staff feel confident, supported and clear about their role. We are committed to continual improvement and reflective practice, both as individuals and as an organisation.
