About Ridgeway School
Ridgeway School holds a unique position within Bedford Borough. It is the only all-age school, (ages between 3 and 19 years) providing education for pupils with physical disabilities and/or medical conditions and associated learning and communication difficulties.
The school building is purpose-built, spacious and fully accessible to wheelchair users. The building features well-equipped classrooms, excellent bathroom facilities, high-tech optimusic equipment, and a hydro-therapy pool.
The school is situated on the same campus as Kempston Academy and is joined to the Child Development Centre (CDC). A number of children use CDC facilities such as the soft play and sensory rooms.
The school is currently organised into two departments, and has a strong Early Years Foundation and Post-16 provision:
- The Primary Department covers Early Years, KS1, KS2
- The Secondary Department covers KS3, KS4 and Post 16
The Primary Department provides an education for children aged between 3 and 11 years. The Secondary Department has pupils aged between 11 and 19 years. The pupils are taught in class groups for the majority of the time, but have some access to subject specialists for some lessons such as Art, Forest School and Cooking.
The Post-16 provision has close links with local colleges including Barnfield, Shuttleworth, Central Beds and Moulton. Students undertake appropriate work experience placements and prepare for their future beyond school. Many students take up local and residential college placements when they leave Ridgeway.
