Message from the Principal

I would like to extend a warm welcome to Reading Girls’ School (RGS). I am incredibly proud to be the Principal of this school, where our greatest asset is our students. They come from over 35 primary schools across Reading and beyond, and are supported by a dedicated and committed staff. Our girls are intellectually curious, enthusiastic, and caring individuals with a passion for learning. 

At the heart of RGS is a clear focus on academic excellence, alongside the development of thoughtful and mindful citizens who respect and appreciate the world around them. We have a strong history of academic success, with remarkable results. Our students graduate with qualifications that open doors to outstanding sixth form providers, universities, and other higher education destinations. 

Starting in September 2025, we will be launching our Sixth Form, which will be built on these strong academic and pastoral foundations. Students will be able to choose from a range of Level 3 courses, and will have opportunities for extra-curricular activities, work experience, and university visits. 

However, academic excellence is only one facet of an RGS education. There is a real sense of academic challenge, creativity, and curiosity that permeates our school. A fantastic team of talented staff deliver high-quality teaching and learning, as well as extra-curricular activities designed to inspire and provide opportunities for our students to flourish as individuals. Classrooms are calm and purposeful, and excellent behaviour fosters outstanding outcomes. 

RGS students thrive by being given a high degree of responsibility, which leads to exceptional behaviour and a commitment to contribute positively to both our community and the wider world. Our Student Leadership Team is at the heart of our philosophy. They are responsible for leading whole-school events and contributing to decision-making. 

We are, without doubt, a multicultural community with 17 different ethnic groups and over 50 languages spoken. By our very nature, our pupils are exposed to many beliefs, faiths, and identities. As school leaders, we believe it is our role to foster experiences within this rich context. Kindness & Respect, Empowerment, and Excellence are values we hold close to our hearts and that guide our behaviour and actions. Additionally, we believe in the moral and social justice that education can provide for young people, free from prejudice. As leaders and staff, we are relentless in our drive to ensure that this ideology becomes an everyday experience for our girls.
