About Northwood Primary School

Northwood is a popular, forward-thinking one-form entry primary school in South Thamesmead.  Our last Ofsted visit confirmed we are a good school and we are now on the journey to becoming outstanding.

Northwood has a range of excellent facilities within a very well maintained, attractive environment.

Northwood is an inclusive school and we continue our work to raise standards for all children, whatever their barriers to learning.  We set very high standards for the quality of teaching and are committed to a continual drive for improvement.  We offer a broad and rich Northwood curriculum to all children which promotes learning skills and embedded learning. 

We are very proud to be a UNICEF Rights Respecting Gold School; the Rights Respecting ethos underpins all that we do.  We have also been awarded the status of a School of Sanctuary which means that we welcome pupils from all walks of life and offer them a secure and safe place to learn and socialise.  Our parents have described us as a “hidden oasis of calm”.

We pride ourselves on the relationships we build with our families, both children and adults alike. We always work in partnership and value the benefits that this brings to school life.

We work hard to ensure that all Northwood staff are supported, well-informed and valued.  SLT are very approachable and whilst we all work hard, we are constantly mindful of staff wellbeing and work-life balance.  We have built a very strong team who genuinely look out for each other.
