About Northlew and Ashbury Parochial Church of England Primary School

Welcome

We are situated in the centre of Northlew village approximately seven miles northwest of Okehampton.

This is a small, rural school with an intake of pupils from the village of Northlew and surrounding area. The school aims to serve its community providing a high quality of education allowing children to develop spiritually, socially, physically, artistically and intellectually. Parents are encouraged to help in school and be actively involved in the education of their children.

As a small, rural primary school one of our strengths is that your child will be valued and cared for very much as an individual and that in this context will learn to value and respect others, both in the school and in the wider world. Our website is intended to help you to know more about our Church of England School, which is part of the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust. Within its pages we hope that the aims of our School are paramount – aims which endeavour to provide a happy, purposeful and wide-ranging balance of learning opportunities which support all aspects of your child's development and encourage them to "Let Their Light Shine".

In January 2004 major building took place to provide a new multi-purpose hall and classroom. The project also incorporated a staff room, cloakroom and a new much needed toilet block which has provided disabled facilities. The work has completely modernised the building and provided the school with a lot of extra space. This has greatly improved the learning environment for pupils and the working conditions for staff.

As of 1st September 2015, the school became part of the Dartmoor Federation and in January 2018, the school converted to academy status and is now part of the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust (DMAT).

We would welcome your interest in joining us as a member of staff. As part of the Dartmoor Multi-Academy Trust, not only will you have a supportive and collaborative work environment with plenty of opportunities for professional development and growth, but you will also have access to an array of benefits as follows:

Smart Clinic/APL

As part of the Trusts commitment to creating and sustaining a healthy working environment for all team members, we have put in place a range of benefits and programmes designed to support peoples physical, mental, and social health. The Smart Clinic is a specialist provider of occupational health and corporate well-being packages to DMAT. Their services ensures that our colleagues have access to market leading support, quickly, and conveniently.

 Cycle to Work Scheme

Cycle scheme is an employee benefit that saves you 25-39% on a bike and accessories. You pay nothing upfront, and the payments are taken tax efficiently from your salary by your employer. You choose a bike, hire it for an agreed time, then wind its value down to a negligible amount. It's like a year-round sale, with interest free credit available in over 2,600 retailers nationwide.

Tech Scheme

The Tech scheme enables you to buy the best tech in a convenient way. You save between 2-12% depending on your rate of tax and spread the cost over 12 payments. It’s like a year-round sale with interest free credit. Choose products from Currys and now IKEA and once you have applied on the Tech Scheme website with your employer code and this has been set up with your employer, you will receive a redemption code to use online or in-store.

Local Government Pension Scheme (Peninsula Pensions)

The LGPS is a national pension scheme for people working in local government or working for other employers that participate in the scheme. The LGPS is one of the largest pension schemes in the UK. It is a defined benefit pension scheme which means your pension is based on your salary and how long you pay into the Scheme. Your pension is not affected by how well investments perform. The LGPS provides you with a secure and guaranteed income every year when you stop working.

  Members Hub | Teachers Pension

As a member of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, you are contractually enrolled into the Scheme from day one. You receive a guaranteed pension through the Teachers' Pension Scheme. It is a defined benefit scheme, registered with HM Revenue and Customs, based on your salary and service rather than investments - so there will be no nasty surprises when you come to claim your pension. Your pension will be a regular source of income when you retire - but you can also take some of it as a tax-free lump sum. You will join the career average arrangement and accrue benefits each year based on 1/57th of your pensionable salary including overtime.
