Welcome to New Hinksey C.E. Primary School. Where everyone is welcome – a school which is small, nurturing and happy. We strive to help every child be successful and fulfil their potential. We like to think of New Hinksey as a village school within the city, it is a jewel in the centre of our community. It is a unique haven where we blend the charm of a close-knit community with the diverse opportunities that urban life offers.
At New Hinksey, we are fortunate to have a team of highly trained and experienced teachers and support staff who are dedicated to nurturing every child’s potential. They bring passion, creativity, and expertise into the classroom, ensuring that each child receives the highest quality of education. Our teachers are committed to fostering curiosity and a love of learning, empowering our children to thrive in mind, body, heart, and spirit, in alignment with our school’s vision inspired by the words of Jesus: “I have come that you may have life in all its fullness” (John 10:10).
We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to flourish, and our curriculum is designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to be responsible, ready, and respectful citizens. We offer a wide-ranging curriculum that includes art and music for all, ensuring that every child has the chance to explore their creative talents. We are proud of our diverse community supporting children from various backgrounds, including those who are disadvantaged, have English as an additional language, or have special educational needs.
The school enjoys a prime position within walking distance of the city centre where we regularly go to take up enriching learning opportunities in the many museums, galleries, workshops and parks that Oxford has to offer. We regularly use the allotment and neighbouring play areas.
We have around 100 pupils in school, from Reception up to Key Stage 2. The school has 4 classes, so class sizes are smaller than average.
We may be a small, but each class has a lot of space to use. Each class has an additional room to use for groups or to spread out in. We also have an art space and kitchen.
We are a voluntary controlled (Local Authority maintained) Church of England primary school with a Christian ethos, welcoming those of any faith as well as those of none.
As we continue to strive for excellence, I invite you to look through our website, come for a visit and consider joining our team. Together, we can ensure that every child at New Hinksey CE Primary leaves us well-prepared for the next steps in their educational journey, filled with confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
