St Michael’s Federation is a federation of Lydbury North CofE Primary School and Onny CofE Primary School. We are two small schools joined together by our vision of ‘Growing to be the best that we can be for God, Ourselves and Each Other’. As a federation, we believe we should be always aiming to achieve our best. We recognise that this goal is a continuous journey and we are always seeking ways to learn, grow and become better members of our community. We recognise that we cannot achieve this goal on our own so we encourage one another and support one another to be our best selves. As well as aiming for educational and academic success, our federation is based on the Christian values of thankfulness, compassion, perseverance, justice, service and truthfulness. We strongly feel that if we can grow these values in our children, they will become well rounded and worldly individuals who will make a vital contribution to the society of today and the future.
Both schools within St Michael’s Federation are small village schools with a long history and tradition. They have their own distinctive characteristics and are at the centre of their rural communities. Both schools have active links with their local Church, both of which are called St Michael’s and this is how the federation derived its name. As executive head, I work across both school sites and employ assistant headteachers in both schools who oversee the day to day running. Staff across both sites work closely together to provide a rich, inspired and varied curriculum and pupils join together to participate in fun extra-curricular activities. Small schools have a lot to offer our pupils. Children have many more opportunities to participate in drama, music and sporting experiences and develop important characteristics such as confidence, tolerance and a sense of belonging. Our federation means we have all the benefits of a small school alongside all the benefits of a large school.
