About Lakelands Academy

Welcome to Lakelands Academy

On behalf of the students, staff and governors of Lakelands Academy, I’m delighted to offer you a very warm welcome to our website.

As Headteacher, I am proud to serve our students, our families and our community and I am delighted to welcome you to Lakelands Academy. I am honoured to lead and work alongside a team of highly skilled and dedicated professionals who share in my passion for our students to achieve the best possible outcomes. Together, we ensure that our school is constantly developing, evolving and improving.

Collectively, we believe that education is much more than academic results; it is about embedding behaviour that is safe, smart, responsible and kind in order that our young people develop into well-rounded, confident individuals who are driven to make a positive contribution to society.

Our aim is to provide an outstanding educational experience for all our young people and to ensure they are prepared for further education and the world of work. We genuinely believe in every one of them and set the highest of standards with aspirational targets. We are determined to deliver excellence in all we do, challenging and inspiring our students to achieve and to do this this with a smile on their face.

We offer outstanding facilities that encourage and support ‘Lakelanders’ to achieve this. Having benefitted from nearly four million pounds of investment over recent years, we are able to provide learning and pastoral environments fit for the future, enabling our students to reap the benefits of enhanced provision in most curriculum areas as well as facilitating the support which complements their learning.

It may sound a cliché but every child really does matter, each and every one deserves the very best education, opportunities and support that we can offer. Our carefully planned curriculum is aspirational, creative and engaging as well as being meaningful and purposeful. We combine this with outstanding pastoral care and exciting opportunities beyond the classroom to challenge and inspire our students to be the best possible version of themselves.

Our students are actively involved in the running, development and leadership of their school community. They are given a voice and a genuine opportunity to make positive changes to their ‘school experience’ influencing the overall direction of Lakelands Academy.

Of course, schooldays should be about building memories as well as building successful futures, and we are driven to ensure that our students create some of the very best during their time with us. From Festival Week to the annual school production, Sports Day to the the Year 11 Prom, and the wide variety of sporting opportunities to curriculum-based trips, we understand how much young people gain from exploring the world beyond themselves. One of the greatest privileges we share at Lakelands Academy, is seeing successive generations discovering the world they will one day inherit, and emerging at sixteen, ready to play their part in making it a better place.

Thank you for your interest in our school. We are proud of our ‘family feel’ and I would be delighted to welcome you to Lakelands Academy to watch ‘Team Lakelands’ in action.

Best wishes,

Mark Hignett
Headteacher
