Lots has changed since then, including our conversion from Primary School to Catholic Voluntary Academy in September 2018. We have grown in popularity over the years and we now have over 250 pupils – from Pre-School to Year 6 – which reflects the belief and trust that our Catholic community has for the future of our academy.
We are proud to have a diverse community serving families over 15 countries, speaking a variety of different languages. We are an inclusive community with a vision built around the Gospel Values and the traditions of the Catholic Church. Our ambition is to develop a ‘Loving Heart and Strong Mind‘ in every member of our community, nurturing the talents and potential within each individual. We work together to achieve high standards and high expectations in terms of teaching and learning, behaviour and attitudes and pupil wellbeing.
Holy Rosary Catholic Voluntary Academy is a place where children, staff, parents and our wider community can come together to learn, to share, to grow in the love of God – and all are welcome.
Working together to live out our vision
At Holy Rosary, the curriculum is broad, balanced and ambitious for all our pupils. Our focus on empowering pupils to have a voice, and ensuring that staff are highly trained and supported, means that good teaching is a feature of every class in the Academy. Collectively, the staff have around 350 years of teaching and learning experience – we are pragmatic and forward thinking in their approach, not only drawing on our experience, but also looking at the latest research to understand what helps children learn best and applying it in our practice.
We prioritise the Social, Emotional, Mental Health and Wellbeing of the whole community. The week always starts with ‘The Listening Hour,’ providing opportunities for pupils to talk about highs and lows, map out their week and learn about an issue related to their safety or their personal development. When further support is required, our positive relationships with all our families and our connections with local agencies and schools means that we can help them access the support they need.
Holy Rosary is led and managed by a strong team, working together with and drawing on the vast resources of the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust. This has supported our rapid progress as a school and continues to drive the school forward to ensure an outstanding Catholic education is available to every child who attends our Academy.
We work together as a community to ensure that ‘Loving Heart – Strong Mind’ is more than a motto. It has become a way of thinking and being that runs through all our actions and aims. We look forward to sharing that with you.
