We are a Catholic school that sets out to champion each and every student. It is our mission to enable and support each child to flourish during their time as part of our community. This can take many forms such as the development of academic knowledge and skills, the growth of confidence and articulacy, and their ability to work, learn and play alongside others. Overall, we strive for students at Greyfriars to become well-rounded, happy individuals, able to take their place in society as ambitious, responsible and compassionate members of the community.
To guide our work, we think carefully around three key elements: Knowledge, Care and Ambition. We value knowledge in many forms - of the subjects taught, of the world around us, and the self-knowledge that comes from gaining a range of rich experiences. Academic excellence is a key goal of the school. We therefore commit to the expert teaching of a broad and balanced, exciting and challenging curriculum. Care is central to everything we do: care for each individual student, member of staff and family, as well as for our role in making a positive contribution to the community of East Oxford in which we are so fortunate to be based. Finally, Ambition of all forms drives and motivates us, because we know that young people can and do, given the right encouragement and guidance, produce and achieve amazing things.
Further to this, as a Catholic school, we consider Catholic principles and values to be at the heart of our work and purpose; this allows us the opportunity to provide something really quite extraordinary. For example, students and staff regularly reflect on concepts of dignity, service and community, and living life to its fullest. These values are not only central to Catholic faith, but are also true for all faiths and none.
I hope that this has given you some sense of the school that it is my privilege and honour to lead and serve. The school is at an exciting stage in its development, with a clear sense of direction and a dedicated staff team working tirelessly to ensure that Greyfriars provides education and experience of the highest quality.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to know more about our work, school and vision, or to visit us and see the school in action
