About Friars Primary School and Nursery
Friars began life as a junior school back in 1971, and not long afterwards the infant and nursery school came into being. The two schools remained separate until after the millennium. On 1 September 2004, the infants and juniors amalgamated to become the school we know today.
Although our school is over 50 years old, we are fully modernised for current times. At Friars, we are very rich in terms of our environment, with wonderful expansive grounds that include playgrounds for Nursery, Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, a very large field, and a beautiful environmental garden. Within the environmental garden sits our outdoor classroom, which can accommodate a full class of children. Outdoor learning is an important aspect of the Friars curriculum, and all children enjoy a week of lessons outside each term. Inside our building, we are very fortunate to have generous space and excellent resources. Our facilities include 18 classrooms, two large halls, two libraries, a computing suite, and many other learning and working spaces.
As a primary school with a nursery, we welcome children from the age of 3 up to the age of 11. We aim high in everything we do and value the positive impact we have on our young people. We have unwavering expectations for everyone — academically, socially, and emotionally. We refer to ourselves as the ‘Friars Family’, and this friendly, family feel is appreciated and noted by everyone, including visitors to the school.
