Pupils with additional needs are well-supported at Fernwood by our specialist SENDCO and their team of dedicated staff. All teachers receive regular training on how best to support and stretch all pupils, including children with additional needs.
Of equal importance is our personal development curriculum that runs alongside the academic curriculum. This is where pupils learn how to experience, navigate and enjoy life in the wider world. We prepare our pupils to make informed choices that enable them to be safe, happy and contribute positively to modern society. Curriculum time is dedicated to delivering high quality lessons about critical issues within personal social health, careers, and relationships and sex education.
Outside of core lessons Fernwood pupils are encouraged to contribute to wider school life. We offer an extensive range of enrichment activities and opportunities including regular school trips and educational visits. All pupils will have the opportunity to participate in a trip abroad during their time with us.
All pupils at Fernwood are well-supported by our highly skilled team of pastoral staff. We want all pupils to have a sense of belonging and feel like they are known, understood and part of the ‘The Fernwood Family’. Pupils are placed in form groups when they join us in year 7 and have contact with their own form tutor every day. We strive to ensure continuity of pastoral support wherever possible.
