This is our fundamental belief, intrinsic to the approach at Egerton-Rothesay School.

It is an ethos which is characterised through detailed individual planning of support for each child. It is indicated through our emphasis on activity-based learning, designed to maintain pupils’ engagement and develop their confidence. It is apparent in the high levels of student awareness of their needs, development and of the next stages in their learning, which helps to develop their comfort within themselves, and with it, their self-esteem.

It is underpinned culturally through our values: of respect towards one another, of pride in ourselves and the wider ERS community; of openness within a nurturing environment of encouragement where wellbeing is prioritised. It is promoted through the spiritual awareness of students, who are tolerant towards others, and display a strong understanding of morality.

The thorough admissions process, where we really get to know potential students, incorporating an extended transition period, helps them to settle and embrace school life, whilst close working relationships with specialist staff based at ERS provides a structured foundation of support.

ERS employs a flexible approach to curriculum planning, carefully adjusted to meet the needs of every pupil in the school, supporting all-round personal development through academic qualifications, complemented by life and employability skills. The wide range of school trips and extra-curricular opportunities which enhance their experiences further are valued immensely by students.

Parents are an integral part of the learning journey. Frequent, transparent and detailed communication is encouraged prior to a child joining the ERS community, with support, guidance and advice continuing after they depart. Every child is treated as an individual at the school, with close staff and student relationships based on high levels of familiarity and stability. Families feel part of a fellowship of learning, support and encouragement.
