About E-ACT North Birmingham Academy

Welcome to E-ACT North Birmingham Academy (NBA)

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome you to North Birmingham Academy. As Headteacher, I feel truly honoured to lead such a passionate and dedicated team of educators and support staff.  Our vision for is ‘To empower every student with the knowledge, skills, and character to realise their full potential, embrace lifelong learning, and succeed in life while making a positive impact on their community and the world.’ Together, we are committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive and access a high-quality education that empowers them to succeed.

My own journey in education began as a behaviour teacher within an alternative provision, working closely with some of Birmingham’s most vulnerable young people.  From the very beginning, my mission was clear: to shift mindsets and rewrite narratives.  I have always believed in the transformative power of education—it can unlock potential, challenge stereotypes, and truly change lives.  Over the years, I’ve been privileged to grow through the pastoral route, deepening my understanding of the importance of care, guidance, and high expectations. My purpose remains the same—to inspire, to remove barriers, and to make what once seemed impossible, possible.

At NBA, we set the bar high and hold ambitious aspirations for every student. At the heart of our community is The NBA Way – our set of values that define who we are and what we stand for.
The NBA Way reminds us to strive for:

N – Nothing but the Best

B – Be Kind

A – Aim High

These values are more than just words on our walls; they shape our culture, guide our decisions, and inspire our students to be the very best versions of themselves. We make no compromise when it comes to our students’ futures. We believe wholeheartedly in the untapped potential within each child and strive not only to deliver excellent academic outcomes, but to shape confident, compassionate, and resilient individuals. Education here goes beyond the classroom—we focus on developing the whole child, supporting their character, values, and personal growth.

Our ethos at NBA is that success is the only option’. We are committed to achieving the highest standards of academic excellence. Our passionate staff use creative teaching approaches alongside a rigorous curriculum to help every student reach their full potential. We believe that all students have the ability to succeed, and we provide the guidance, support, and resources they need to achieve exceptional results. Our curriculum is carefully designed to engage, challenge, and inspire.  Coupled with a wide range of extracurricular opportunities and strong community partnerships, we equip our students with the skills, values, and mindset they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

We are proud to be a safeguarding-first academy.  The safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority.  Our proactive and robust approach to safeguarding ensures that students feel safe, supported, and empowered to speak up.  Through a rich and purposeful Personal Development Curriculum, our students gain the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices and stay safe in all areas of life. Inclusivity is at the heart of who we are; every student is valued, respected, and heard. At North Birmingham Academy, every voice matters, and everyone belongs. Together, with our students, families, staff, and wider community, we will continue to build on our shared purpose to make North Birmingham Academy a place where excellence and opportunity go hand in hand.

Warm Regards,

Mr David Karim

Headteacher
