Catherine Wayte Primary School: Introduction and Aims

Catherine Wayte Primary School opened in September 2000 and provides education for pupils aged 4-11 years from North Swindon. It has proved to be a successful and popular primary school and has been expanded to become a two-form entry school, with two classes for each year group. The school is named after the daughter of the one-time owner of Manor Farm and the land on which the school is built. Catherine Wayte was concerned that local children were not being educated and sought to provide schooling for children from the parishes of Blunsdon St. Andrew and Rodbourne Cheney. She established a school in Haydon Wick in 1806 to provide basic education for local boys and girls in the 19th century. We are proud to be named after her.
Catherine Wayte Primary School provides an extremely effective and exciting curriculum which in some ways is similar to that of the old school but has all the elements of 21st century education and the technology it brings including interactive whiteboards in every class room, three class sets of laptops, two class sets of iPads, digital cameras, digital microscopes, visualisers and more! Staff and governors consider the needs of the individual child as a citizen of the future as well as teaching the basic skills incorporated in the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum set by the government. We continue to support the ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes re. safety, health, enjoyment and achievement, economic well-being and making a positive contribution to the community.

Our vision for Catherine Wayte Primary School reflects a passionate commitment to learning and recognition of the uniqueness of individual learners. It is driven by our desire to offer the best possible education for our pupils in partnership with parents and the local community.
Our aims are to:
• Provide a variety of appropriate teaching and learning opportunities.
• Create a learning environment in which pupils and staff feel safe and secure and are encouraged to achieve their full potential.
• Encourage self-discipline, independence and respect for others.
• Provide pupils and staff with opportunities to build self-confidence and increase self-esteem in order to experience success and achievement.
• Provide a range of resources appropriate to age, ability and curriculum requirements.
• Create an environment where partnerships with parents and the wider community are encouraged and developed.
• Provide an attractive environment with stimulating displays which reflect the ability of our pupils, are relevant to on-going work and which encourage questioning and discussion.
• Develop the whole child – spiritually, socially, physically, emotionally and mentally.
• Value the uniqueness of each pupil
• Recognise that our children come from a range of social and cultural backgrounds and bring a wealth of experience to our school
• Promote positive personal qualities and British values.
