About this Role

Local Governor at a Campfire Education Trust School

Campfire Education Trust (CET) is seeking to recruit Governors to join our schools’ Local Governing Boards. This position is open to individuals with experience from any sector, whether commercial, non-profit, or public. The ideal candidates will bring a strong sense of challenge and competence to the Board and Senior Leadership Team, while demonstrating a passion for improving education for the children in the communities that we serve.

The Trust has a clear vision for its future and has already made significant progress. To build on this momentum, we are looking to add further strength and skillsets to our Local Governing Boards. We currently have opportunities at Bourton Meadow Academy and Lace Hill Academy in Buckingham; Moorland Primary School in Milton Keynes; and Lumbertubs Primary School and Spring Lane Primary School in Northampton.

About Campfire Education Trust

Established in 2013, CET comprises six primary schools across Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes: Bourton Meadow Academy, George Grenville Academy, Lace Hill Academy, Lumbertubs Primary School, Spring Lane Primary School and Moorland Primary School.

Our Mission

Campfire Education Trust will ensure all pupils, regardless of their backgrounds or starting points, can access a high quality, enriched educational offer which leads to strong outcomes.

Our mission is to establish a dynamic professional learning community across CET, and beyond, so that we can support, challenge and equip our staff to provide the best possible education for the pupils and communities that we serve.

The definition of our ‘Trust’ is everyone in the organisation: pupils, teachers, support staff, leaders, those in governance roles and the central team. We are all part of the Campfire Education Trust community and we recognise that we are stronger together.

Our Core Values

Collaborative

Learning is the core business at CET. As one organisation we have a collective responsibility to maximise our learning by sharing our expertise, aligning our work where it makes sense to do so and being open to different perspectives, with the understanding that we only succeed if we all succeed.

We are outward facing and actively seek opportunities to impact and contribute to the wider school system. We relish the opportunity to learn from other organisations too, recognising the importance of external collaboration and partnerships in removing the ceiling of what can be achieved.

Supportive

We are committed to creating a supportive culture of learning for all staff and pupils. Each school within CET has its own distinctive character, curriculum and identity in order to support the local needs of the pupils and communities. We celebrate this diversity and recognise it is by working together, as one wider Trust community, that we can achieve more.

Relationships are strong within schools, and across CET. We prioritise and invest time in building resilient relationships, underpinned by honesty and based on robust evaluation. We are reflective practitioners; therefore, feedback is welcomed and is rooted in our mission to provide the best possible education for pupils.

Ambitious

We are ambitious for our staff, our community of schools and all pupils. Central to this ethos is the unified goal to continuously learn and improve so that there is no limit to what can be achieved. CET facilitates and prioritises professional learning and leadership development opportunities for staff so that we build capacity for continuous improvement.

By taking a holistic approach to education we aim to provide equity of opportunity for all our pupils regardless of their starting points. By removing barriers, accelerating progress and developing the whole child through an enriched curriculum, we ensure that pupils are ready, both academically and socially, for the next stage of their education.

Our Governance Structure

The purpose of governance at CET is to provide confident and strong strategic leadership which leads to robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance.

All governance structures have the same core functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  • Holding Executive Leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

At CET, the governance structure is led by its board of trustees, with certain responsibilities delegated across the organisation.

Our Local Governing Boards

Each school has a local governing board (LGB), which is a committee of the board of trustees and aims to connect the board and the local community of the school.

Our LGBs are formed with a minimum of the following governors:

  • 1 staff governor
  • 3 parent governors
  • The headteacher
  • 3 community governors

The LGBs may also co-opt governors

The LGB is responsible for upholding the Trust’s mission and values in the local context, alongside ensuring the effective delivery of the school’s distinctive ethos and curriculum.

The specific role of an LGB is to be focused on the impact of the school’s work to serve and engage with its local community, children and context.

The LGB is responsible for:

  • Monitoring the delivery and impact of the school’s improvement plan, curriculum and educational standards
  • Fostering strong communication and feedback links with parents/carers, the local community and stakeholders so that there are effective communication links up to the Full Trust Board (FTB)
  • Holding leaders to account for the performance of pupils, staff, pay decisions and statutory compliance as outlined in the Scheme of Delegation and Policy Schedule and LGB Roles and Responsibilities document.
