Buckland Newton Church of England Primary School is a welcoming, inclusive and ambitious rural school where pupils and adults are enabled to flourish. Recent inspections recognise the strong culture, high expectations and deeply embedded values that define life at our school.

Our school has recently achieved expected standard in all areas of our OFSTED inspection (February 2026) with support of our governing body and SAST.

Ofsted describes Buckland Newton as a place where “pupils are proud to belong to the Buckland Newton family” and where “staff are proud to work at the school”, reflecting the strong relationships, positive ethos and careful attention given to staff wellbeing and professional development.pdf). The school provides an “ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum” and pupils “achieve particularly well”, behave well and feel safe within a calm and caring environment’

Our Christian vision, “Let Your Light Shine” (Matthew 5:16), is at the heart of all we do. The SIAMS inspection noted that “the school’s Christian vision is deeply meaningful to its community, enabling pupils and adults to flourish” and praised “inspirational Christian leadership” that ensures the vision is “widely understood and truly lived’ Inspectors highlighted a culture where the school is “nurturing and caring, a place of love”, with an inclusive community that “embraces all, especially those with special educational needs and/or disabilities”

Pupils are confident, reflective and respectful. They live out the school’s values daily, demonstrating responsibility, compassion and service, and they are supported by staff who know them well and place their needs at the centre of decision-making
