About Brampton Ellis CofE Primary School

Welcome to Brampton 'The Ellis' C of E Aided Primary School

Brampton ‘The Ellis’ C of E (Aided) Primary School is a happy, welcoming and inspiring place to work, where children and adults alike are encouraged to flourish. At the heart of our school is a strong sense of community, built on positive relationships, genuine partnerships with families, and close links with the wider community.

We are a larger-than-average primary school located in Brampton. Our unique split-site setting adds to the character of our school: Early Years and Key Stage 1 are based at one end of the road, opposite our beautiful parish church, Christ Church, while Key Stage 2 is located at the other end. This arrangement supports a nurturing journey from early childhood through to the end of primary education.

With 450 wonderful pupils on roll, our children are a joy to teach. They have a real spark for learning and for life, showing curiosity, enthusiasm and a desire to do their very best. Their positive attitudes and eagerness to engage make Brampton ‘The Ellis’ a rewarding place to work.

Our staff team is dedicated, friendly and highly supportive. We value teamwork and wellbeing, and staff support one another professionally and personally. If you are looking to join a school where you will feel valued, inspired and part of something special, Brampton ‘The Ellis’ could be the perfect place for you.

Our Vision and Values

At Brampton ‘The Ellis’, we are guided by a strong Christian vision that shapes everything we do. We aspire to great things, shine our light, and help every member of our school community reach their God-given potential.

This vision is rooted in the Bible verse:

“Let your light shine.” (Matthew 5:16)

We want every child to recognise the value of their own light — to feel proud of their achievements, to value and respect themselves, and to know how deeply they are loved by both God and others.

Our commitment is to ensure that all children achieve their very best, making the most of the rich educational opportunities available to them. Christian values underpin our determination to help every child grow into a confident, caring and responsible individual, ready to take their place as a valued citizen in the world.

We focus on our 3 R’s: Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

  • Respect and Responsibility reflect our identity as a Church of England school and support children in understanding their role within school, the wider community and the world around them.
  • Resilience is central to our approach to learning. Our children know that no one gives up here. They understand the importance of perseverance and developing confidence as resilient learners.

Our Founder, George Ellis

Born in 1627, George Ellis was a local landowner and benefactor who lived in the Manor House, now known as Brampton Hall, at Brampton Bierlow. He founded the original school at Brampton in 1680 and, when he died in 1712, his will included the following:

"I bequeath to the school in Brampton six pounds thirteen shillings and four pence per annum for ever for the teaching of 20 of the poorest boys or girls to read the Bible and instructing them in the Church Catechism....and if there be not at any time hereafter the full number of poor boys and girls in Brampton and Wath to be taught, that number be made up from the neighbouring towns."
