Bodmin
College is a large secondary school serving the historic town of Bodmin and the
surrounding rural area. There are 1,570
students who attend the secondary school and sixth form. The College converted to become an academy
school in January 2011 and joined Cornwall Education Learning Trust in June
2023.
Neighbourhoods
in Bodmin are within the most deprived areas in Cornwall and England but the
College strives to provide the best possible education to its students and
improve education opportunities for all.
26.1% of students are eligible for Free School Meals, 7% are classed as
Disadvantaged, 6% have English as an additional language and 5.1% have an EHCP.
Bodmin
College has a welcoming community atmosphere and both staff and students are
proud to be a part of this school. Students
feel safe at Bodmin College and speak positively about the relationships they
have with staff.
The school is on a rapid improvement journey and its most recent Ofsted inspection in October 2024, indicated that many elements of the improvement plan are in their infancy and therefore not yet had impact.
Bodmin is
an improving school with great prospects for existing and new staff. This
includes exciting new challenges and professional rewards, opportunities for
career progression and the opportunity to work in a forward-thinking and
collaborative educational environment.
The Bodmin
College campus offers students the unique opportunity to study from the age of
11 to 21 years old. It offers HE courses in
partnership with Falmouth University. The provision of Higher Education in Bodmin
aims to widen access and participation by supporting and encouraging students
who might ordinarily choose to leave education at 18 but have the talent to
continue to a higher level.
This is an exciting stage in the life of the academy. Bodmin College’s site is being redeveloped through an ambitious building programme. It is expanding provision for children with SEND within it’s ARB in collaboration with Cornwall Council.
Bodmin College Campus is the main base for CELT Hub, alternative provision for pupils from across Cornwall Education Learning Trust. The Trust is also applying to
open the first UTC provision in Cornwall to develop aspirations and vocational
career pathways for the children of Mid-Cornwall.
