WELCOME
Black Torrington is a tiny, close knit school community with a warm and nurturing atmosphere and a focus on challenging ourselves to be the best we can be in every area of life. We take pride in being a place where everyone is included, respected and can flourish.
Our school vision is inspired by Romans 12, which asks us to be ‘joyful in hope and steadfast in troubles’. Our school logo is a rainbow with a cross in front of it. It reminds us of the Old Testament story of Noah’s Ark, where God rewards Noah’s faith and hope with his promise for the future in the form of a magnificent rainbow. As a school community we strive to find joy in our journey together by delighting in our learning, remaining steadfast in challenges and by trusting in the richness of our relationships with one another, with the wider world and beyond.
Our school building and outdoor area are small but perfectly formed. We make the most of our sunny garden, courtyard playground and beautiful school building, as well as the historic St Mary’s church next door.
Black Torrington is a musical school, with every child learning to play the Belle plates and lots of singing and musical enrichment.
We are a Church school, so although there is no expectation that our children or staff are actively religious, our school culture is underpinned by a strong moral purpose and spirituality is important to us.
Black Torrington Primary is proud to be part of the Ruby Hub of schools within the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust.
