The aim of our curriculum is to equip children with the skills and knowledge they need to explore and understand the world around them.

At Bizzie Bees we believe that children grow and develop when they have access to a well thought out learning environment and engaged adults.

The teaching and learning of new skills and knowledge are delivered through both adult and child led opportunities both in and outdoors.

We focus on the importance of knowledge and skills that will support children in every way possible so that they can make the most of opportunities and fulfil their potential along with promoting their independence.

There are seven areas of learning and development within the Early Years curriculum.

In planning for children, we consider the different ways in which children learn using the three characteristics of effective

• Playing and exploring

• Active Learning

• Creating and thinking critically

Our intent is for children to leave us confident ready for school with the skills that will support their future learning.  We will support the development of every child’s communication skill’s helping them to build their self-confidence, we will provide a safe and secure environment that will enable and encourage all children to explore and learn using the curiosity approach. Using the curiosity approach, we will provide a natural homely environment that will empower children to grow and develop thought awe and wonder.

Implementation - How we will support children

We work alongside the children's interests developing their own natural curiosity to explore and learn within their environment. We will take the time to listen to the children's voice to value their ideas and opinions. We will build strong relationships with our families from the first point of contact through inductions, parent consolations and our parent app. We support our staff through supervisions and training to enable them to meet the needs of all our children, they will be positive role models. Staff assess the children’s development using their starting point to enable all children to move forward in their individual way.
We use EYPP to support our families by purchasing specific equipment to suit their child’s needs or specialised training for a staff member. We also provide health snacks and meals to support children’s development, we help  children to be aware of healthy choices and what makes us healthy.

We  record the child’s voice and development alongside using a Floorbook system, each keyworker will have a Floorbook which they will complete with the children recording their learning together.

Below are some of the key features of our learning environment:

·        Being specific with our praise, noting how well children solve problems, have ideas and negotiate.

·        Work with parents to ensure they are able to support their child’s learning at home.

·        Share and discuss experiences

·        Role model positive language and positive behaviour

·        Provide supervised opportunities for turn taking.

·        Provide real life experiences

·        Providing a well-resourced enabling environment.

·        Well planned learning environments in and outdoors that promote the focus on learning.

·        Know and understand the areas of learning and development

·        By building a good relationship up with both key children and their immediate family

·        Know how each child plays and learns.

Impact

Assessment links our children’s learning and to our curriculum.

• Each half term (approximately 6 weeks), each child will have a development summary in the form of a long observation. This will record what each child has been learning, what we’ve been enjoying, talk about their wellbeing and whether their development is as expected or if there is anything we need to work on. We will share this with parents though our parent app. There are a number of non-statutory guidance documents to help with this, as from September 2021 we will be using “Development Matters” as a benchmark for the children’s development.
• Every term (approximately 12 weeks) we will share a summative assessment with parents via our Parent app, we will also invite the parents to a meeting to further discuss their children development. At this meeting we will ask the parents share idea for future learning for their children, this could be toilet training, using cutlery, turn taking or various other areas of development. We will use the information gained from the assessment and parental involvement to develop each child’s future learning.

During a child’s time with us we complete the following.

• A baseline assessment of the child’s development shortly after they start with us. This is completed in partnership with parents using our “All about me”.

• Termly summative assessment of where the child’s development is in relation to typical milestones and the characteristics of effective learning

•       Leavers Summary to pass to support their future learning

•       Two Year Statutory assessment

Impact

We will check that our curriculum is meeting the needs of our children by:

•       Children leaving us as happy, curious, confident and healthy ready for school.

•       Gathering feedback from the children, parents and other professionals.

•     Review the progress children are making and how they are accessing the learning environment

•     As teams and Individually with the manager of the setting discuss the curriculum.

•       Supervision of staff to assess their knowledge and confidence in delivering our curriculum
