We are looking to recruit an exceptional and inspirational
Physics teacher to join our team at Reading School, where intellectual
curiosity and a love of learning is at the heart of what we do. We are looking
for someone with a deep knowledge of physics, who has the ability to inspire
our excellent students.
We are looking for someone who:
What we can offer you:
We would welcome applications from both qualified teachers
and unqualified candidates who can demonstrate a strong physics knowledge and
relevant teaching or instructional experience.
The Physics department has three laboratories, a Lecture
Theatre and a departmental staff room. All teachers are given the opportunity
to provide intellectual stimulation, stretch and challenge across all key
stages. The department currently has six subject specialists and a Physics
Technician.
From the beginning of Year 7, students are taught Physics as
a separate science by subject specialists. In Year 9, all students start their
Physics GCSE course and we utilise the time to stretch the students beyond the
confines of the specification and further develop their practical skills. Physics
is one of our most popular A-Level subjects and we consistently run four
classes in sixth form.
The department regularly run clinics to support students in
achieving their academic potential and clubs to engage with those who wish to
nurture their passion for Physics and Engineering further.
Each year the Physics department supports many students in
their applications to Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities to read Physics
or Engineering degrees. Our students are well-behaved, motivated,
intellectually able and eager to flourish as Physicists. These excellent
foundations enable us to run an outstanding range of practicals and
extra-curricular activities, including Inspire lectures.
The department provides a very supportive environment to
teach in and members of the team enjoy discussing and sharing ideas and
resources to improve teaching and outcomes. Indeed, the opportunities for
professional development are substantial, making Reading School an ideal place
to either begin a teaching career or to continue to thrive and flourish in a
supporting environment.
At Reading School, we have a clear educational philosophy
and a deeply rooted commitment to social mobility. In all we do we seek to
nurture character and develop academic excellence, and we know that what we do
really matters. More than 10% of our Year 7 students come from disadvantaged
backgrounds and we are proud of the difference that we make. In 2026, the
school was rated the Sunday Times South East State School of the Year.
We are a short walk from central Reading and close to
transport links. Reading is a diverse place to live with arts, culture and
heritage at the heart of the town.
This is a full-time teaching role but we would consider
applications from candidates who wish to work part-time. If you are submitting
a part-time application, please make this clear in your personal statement.
