About this Role

September 2026 Start

We are looking for a dedicated and proactive Learning Support Assistant to play a key role in supporting pupils across the whole school, ensuring they can access learning effectively and make strong progress.

The postholder will work closely with the Learning Support Team and Academic Staff to provide in-class support, deliver targeted interventions, and assist with the day-to-day organisation of learning support provision. You will help to create a positive, inclusive learning environment, offering guidance, encouragement and practical assistance to pupils with a range of learning needs. Depending on need, you may also support pupils during assessments and internal examinations to ensure appropriate access arrangements are implemented.

About John Lyon School

John Lyon is a leading academically selective co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 2–18, located in Harrow-on-the-Hill, North West London. With a proud heritage dating back to 1876, the school has evolved into a thriving all-through school following its 2021 amalgamation with Quainton Hall Prep School. In the same year, we welcomed our first girls as pupils, marking an exciting new chapter in the school's history.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive salary, above that of the maintained sector;
  • Membership of group pension scheme;
  • Fees remission for children of staff;
  • A commitment to continuing professional development;
  • Complimentary lunch during term-time;
  • Use of the School’s Sports Centre, including swimming pool;
  • Discounted membership to Harrow School’s Golf Club;
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.

Please apply as soon as possible. Applications will be assessed in the order received, and we reserve the right to interview and make an appointment before this date, should a suitable applicant be found.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with any past employers and an Enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service, and it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. Online searches will be carried out if you are shortlisted. Please refer to the School's Recruitment, Selection and Disclosure Policy for more details. No member of staff will be able to start until these checks are complete, and this process can take, on average, one month. Please plan accordingly.

As a provider of employment and education, we value the diversity of our staff and students. We are committed to providing a fair, equitable and mutually supportive learning and working environment for our students and staff.
