About this Role

September 2026 Start

Joining our vibrant Music Department, you will work in an inspiring setting that boasts several large halls, multiple practice rooms, and an impressive selection of musical instruments. Should the need arise, additional instruments can be acquired to support your teaching. Pupils are prepared for examinations using the ABRSM syllabus. The successful applicant should have experience in educating pupils using this examination board. Should you wish to consider alternative exam boards, this should be discussed with the Director of Music.

The Senior School proudly supports approximately 15 Visiting Music Teachers and offers a rich programme of around 20 music clubs and ensembles. Our facilities include a 130-seat Music Hall, numerous practice spaces, and cutting-edge Music Technology suites, ensuring a stimulating and dynamic teaching environment.

You will be engaged on a self-employed basis (term time only) and will be responsible for creating your own timetable in line with our School’s guidelines.

About John Lyon School

John Lyon is a leading academically selective co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 2–18, located in Harrow-on-the-Hill, North West London. With a proud heritage dating back to 1876, the school has evolved into a thriving all-through school following its 2021 amalgamation with Quainton Hall Prep School. In the same year, we welcomed our first girls as pupils, marking an exciting new chapter in the school's history.

Please apply as soon as possible. Applications will be assessed in the order received, and we reserve the right to interview and make an appointment before this date, should a suitable applicant be found.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with any past employers and an Enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service, and it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. Online searches will be carried out if you are shortlisted. Please refer to the School's Recruitment, Selection and Disclosure Policy for more details. No member of staff will be able to start until these checks are complete, and this process can take, on average, one month. Please plan accordingly.

As a provider of employment and education, we value the diversity of our staff and students. We are committed to providing a fair, equitable and mutually supportive learning and working environment for our students and staff.
