Serenity School Old Palace Croydon is looking to appoint an experienced and passionate Safeguarding Officer / Education Welfare Officer (EWO) to join our supportive and collaborative team.

The successful candidate will act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns across the school, working closely with the Headteacher, staff, families, and external agencies to ensure pupils are safe, supported, and able to engage fully in their education. Alongside safeguarding responsibilities, the postholder will lead on attendance monitoring and intervention, helping to improve attendance and remove barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Acting as the first point of contact for safeguarding and child protection concerns, ensuring appropriate and timely action is taken
- Coordinating referrals, attending multi-agency meetings, and maintaining accurate safeguarding records and documentation
- Monitoring, analysing, and promoting pupil attendance, working proactively with families to improve attendance outcomes
- Liaising effectively with social care, external agencies, parents/carers, and school staff to support pupil welfare and wellbeing
- Supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of safeguarding procedures, attendance processes, and staff training
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working within safeguarding, child protection, attendance, education welfare, or a related field
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, child protection procedures, and attendance requirements
- Possesses excellent communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills
- Can build positive and professional relationships with pupils, families, staff, and external agencies
- Is resilient, highly professional, and able to manage sensitive situations with integrity, discretion, and confidence
