Appointment of Trust Member
Role: Trust Member (Voluntary)
Time Commitment: Approximately 2–3 meetings per year (including AGM)
Location: Remote-usually 2-3pm on a Monday afternoon excluding the 1 AGM which lasts 2 hours.
The Opportunity
Are you passionate about transforming the life chances of young people? St Barnabas Multi Academy Trust is seeking a visionary and principled individual to join us as a Member.
As a Member, you will play a critical role in the "eyes on, hands off" oversight of our Trust. You will be one of the custodians of our vision and ethos, ensuring that the Board of Trustees is effective and that the Trust remains true to its charitable objects.
Your Role: The "Guardian" of Governance
While Trustees manage the Trust, Members ensure the Trustees are doing their jobs. Your key responsibilities include:
Appointing and Removing Trustees: Ensuring the Board has the skills required to drive the Trust forward.
Constitutional Oversight: Approving amendments to the Trust’s Articles of Association.
Holding the Board to Account: Reviewing the Trust’s annual accounts and report at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Strategic Assurance: Exercising powers to step in should governance fail to meet the high standards expected by the Department for Education (DfE).
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking individuals with significant professional experience and a commitment to the Seven Principles of Public Life (Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty, and Leadership).
In light of the 2025/26 Academy Trust Handbook priorities, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in:
Strategic Governance & Risk: Experience in high-level oversight within the public, private, or charity sectors.
Financial Scrutiny: An ability to interpret complex financial data and ensure "value for money" and "feasibility."
Digital & Cyber Resilience: Understanding the strategic importance of the DfE’s 2030 digital standards.
Estates & Sustainability: Insight into long-term infrastructure health and climate action planning.
Why Join Us?
This is a unique opportunity to give back to your community at a strategic level. You will use your professional "muscle" to ensure that thousands of children receive the best possible education in a safe, well-governed environment.
Note: This is a voluntary, pro bono role. We are committed to diversity and welcome applications from all backgrounds to ensure our governance reflects the communities we serve.
St Barnabas Multi Academy Trust is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all staff and job applicants. We aim to create a supportive and inclusive working environment in which all individuals can make best use of their skills, free from discrimination or harassment, and in which all decisions are based on merit.
