About this Role

TCES Nurture Primary is looking for a caring, resilient and motivated Teaching Assistant to join our team supporting neurodiverse pupils aged 7 to 11, many of whom have Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of pupils who haven't always had it easy, working within a small, nurturing primary setting where therapeutic education sits at the heart of everything we do.

About the role

Working under the guidance of the Class Teacher, you will:

  • Support, encourage and motivate individual pupils and small groups on educational tasks set in line with each pupil's EHCP
  • Help identify short-term achievable goals within EHCPs and Individual Education Plans, contributing to lesson plans and curriculum projects
  • Prepare teaching and therapeutic resources and help maintain a positive, engaging classroom environment
  • Support the teacher with diagnostic assessments for new pupils
  • Help embed a consistent system of rewards and positive reinforcement, in line with our Community Values and the Four R's: Refocus, Reflection, Restorative Justice and Relationships
  • Keep accurate daily and termly records of pupil progress
  • Promote pupil safety and wellbeing at all times, escalating any safeguarding concerns swiftly and appropriately
  • Support breakfast provision, lunchtime cover and accompany pupils on external activities and educational visits

About you

We're looking for someone with:

  • Numeracy and Literacy qualifications at Level 2 or above (or equivalent)
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant/Learning Support qualification, or a willingness to work towards one
  • At least one year's experience working directly with pupils in an educational or related setting
  • A clear understanding of behaviour management and assessment strategies, particularly for pupils with ASC and/or SEMH
  • Knowledge of child protection guidance and a genuine commitment to safeguarding
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build constructive, appropriate relationships with pupils
  • Physical intervention training, or relevant experience, is desirable but not essential

Why Join TCES ?

With our exceptional neurodiverse pupils at the centre of everything we do, we encourage professionals with a "never give up" attitude, from all backgrounds, to become part of our team. In our Outstanding-rated schools and services, we've completely reshaped how therapy is included within education — and you'll have a big part to play in the success of our pupils.

We offer:

  • A comprehensive induction process and individual Learning & Development plan
  • High-quality CPD, including HLTA status, QTS/QTLS routes and Level 3–5 qualifications in Therapeutic Education and Group Process
  • A supportive, clinically-informed team culture
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme and therapeutic/clinical support

TCES is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
