About this Role
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Occupational Therapist to join our team at TCES East London School, E15 4HT. This is a permanent, full-time role (37.5 hours), where you will deliver therapeutic provision as part of the school's clinical team, reporting to the on-site Therapy Lead. The role has been created to co-facilitate independence and communication, helping to speed recovery and achieve outcomes that are meaningful to students.
The role will suit a therapist who is flexible, practical and interested in working with children who have experienced significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences. The post-holder will assess and manage complex sensory and occupational functioning needs, co-produce care plans and sensory/communication passports, and advise on moderating the classroom environment, including developing and implementing Positive Handling Plans in accordance with MAPA/Safety Intervention.
TCES East London supports individuals facing barriers in education, including those with SEND, complex needs and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), many of whom have experienced extended time away from learning.
Through specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention, expert training and partnership with staff and families, we strengthen wellbeing, rebuild engagement and create inclusive environments where young people can succeed.
Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:
- Hold a recognised Occupational Therapy degree qualification or equivalent, with HCPC Licence to Practice.
- Registered member of the British College of Occupational Therapists.
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to masters degree or equivalent (desirable).
- Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience, 2 of which are within relevant areas of specialism, such as high-risk behaviour, Tier 3/4 mental health needs, school phobia/anxiety disorders, CLA pupils, or complex health needs.
- Substantial experience of working with children with emotional, behavioural and social difficulties, highly complex and high-risk presentations, and those on the Autistic Spectrum.
- Experience of group-work.
- A high level of experience of multi-disciplinary and inter-agency working, with knowledge of clinical governance, audit and research.
- Ability to plan and implement evidence-based clinical interventions from referral to discharge, and to coordinate therapy input and locally lead on the therapy services operational policy.
- Ability to identify and assess risk when working with young people with challenging behaviour, and to communicate sensitively in highly emotive settings.
